STUDENT ARRIVAL PROCEDURES
This year, all 1st through 5th graders will line up on the blacktop in grade level-marked areas (like we did prior to COVID mitigations). K students will line up in front of the K door (just west of main entrance). Students will be dismissed from these same locations. No more entry/dismissal on the north teacher parking lot side of the school.

Students should be dropped off between white signs at the top of the traffic circle and  use the following doors when entering school. Students will be dismissed through these same doors:

  • Kindergarten: students should enter through the Kindergarten door.
  • First - Fifth Grades: students will access the event doors by the blacktop.

Late arrivals (after 8:40 am) should use the main doors and check in at the office. In the event of inclement weather, students will assemble in the building at 8:25 am.

STUDENT DISMISSAL PROCEDURES
  • Dismissal times:
    • 11:25 (KAM)
    • 3:05 (Grades KPM-5)
  • Classroom teachers will lead their grade levels to the blacktop (grades 1-5), with the exception of Kindergarten.
  • WALKERS and CAR RIDERS: Reunite with families at the top of the traffic loop/blacktop or at other designated meeting spot.
  • KINDERGARTENERS and siblings wait at K door until parent/sibling reunification.
  • REUNITING w/ SIBLINGS: If walkers have a sibling to meet, they will meet at the blacktop then proceed to walk home.
  • ALL students will be guided to load vehicles at the top of the traffic loop.
  • In case of inclement weather, students will wait socially distanced inside classrooms and hallways and be dismissed as parents arrive at the top of the traffic loop.

For students departing by car, please make sure to always display your name tag curbside. New families will receive a name tag on the first day of school; returning families who need to replace name tags can obtain them from the office for $2. Please be sure to pull up to the front of the traffic circle when picking up your child.
.
REPORT AN ABSENCE
Report a student absence by going to the website or calling the school before 8:30 am:  630.861.4698 . Afternoon absences should be reported by 12:15 pm. We will call home to verify an absence if a student is absent and we have not received a call. Always call the office to report an absence; teachers do not relay student absences to the office.

BICYCLE RIDING TO WALKER
Students in Grades 3-5 may ride their bikes to school only after they have registered their bicycles with the Clarendon Hills Police. Students must wear bicycle helmets, lock their bikes while at Walker and have learned bicycle safety rules.

SAFETY TO AND FROM SCHOOL
Students may only cross Walker Avenue at the manned crosswalk. Please do not park across the street and wave your child across the street.
Please review safety practices with your child, including the use of the crossing guard intersection, looking both ways, crossing at intersections, avoiding strangers, walking with friends/siblings, and utilizing the safest route to and from school.

PARKING LOT PROCEDURES
  1. Pull your car all the way forward through the loop.  Children should exit from cars on the curbside in the zone between the two large signs.
  2. You may also drop off your child at the NE corner of Harris/Walker or the SW corner of Ridge/Walker.
  3. Do not park on Walker across from school (the street is too narrow).
  4. You may not turn left into or out of the loop. RIGHT TURNS ONLY!
  5. Please inform all caregivers, grandparents, or anyone else who may be picking up your child from school about the parking lot procedures.

VISITORS – ENTRY TO SCHOOL
All visitors must stop at the office to be verified before entering the building. They must provide identification during the check-in process. All doors into the school are kept locked at all times.

FORGOTTEN ITEMS/MESSAGES DURING THE SCHOOL DAY
  • Messages/Play Dates:  If there is a change in plans for the end of the day (except for emergencies), you must meet your child after school to discuss the plan with him/her.
  • Forgotten Items:  The school tries to minimize disruptions to the classroom, so items delivered to the school office that children have forgotten will not be delivered to the classroom. Remind your child to check with the office if they are expecting something to be delivered from home. Eyeglasses are the only exception. If these are brought into school, they will be delivered by a staff member to your child as quickly as possible.
