Mission Statement

The Walker Elementary PTO is an organization whose purpose is to lend our energy, time and ability to strengthen, enhance and encourage the educational, extracurricular and social environment for the students, staff and parents of Walker Elementary. The goal of the PTO is to compliment the school curriculum with supplemental opportunities for students, teachers and parents to learn, socialize, communicate and grow.

PTO Rules

WALKER PTO STANDING RULES
  1. The school principal should be notified of all PTO activities.
  2. The Executive Board shall consist of:
    ​a. Two (2) Co-President
    b. Two (2) Co-Vice Presidents
    c. Treasurer
    d. Assistant Treasurer
    e. Recording Secretary

  3. Committee Chairs are responsible for ensuring dates are on the school and PTO calendars by coordinating with the School Secretary and [email protected]. The Chairs are also responsible for providing content for the WWNews as appropriate as well as the Sunday night PTO emails.
  4. Committee Chairs are responsible for the projected budget amount. Any committee or project expense that will go over the approved budgeted amount must receive written approval from the Executive Board.
  5. There will be no reimbursement for any sales tax paid. Please use the Illinois Sales tax exemption form when making any purchases.
  6. After each event or project, request for reimbursement should be submitted within 30 days, any requests submitted after 30 days will be considered a donation to the PTO. Requests must be accompanied by a “Reimbursement Request” form and appropriate documentation such as receipts. All materials should be placed in the treasurers mailbox in the school office. Reimbursements will be made within 14 days and checks will be delivered back to the school office.
  7. Lost checks will incur a $30 fee that will be deducted from the replacement check.
  8. Committee Chairs are responsible for assigning a photographer/collecting pictures from the activity or project and submitting them to [email protected].
  9. At the conclusion of each committee’s activities or projects, the Chair should submit a Summary including but not limited to: description of event, recommendation for changes for the following year, list of vendors or purchases required, and detail of expenses.
  10. Standing Committees: WalkerFest, School Supplies, Directory, School Shirts, Passive Fundraising, Plant Sale, Holiday Bazaar, Hot Lunch, Spirit Lunch, Yearbook, School Bricks, Staff Grants, In-School Learning, Bulletin Board, Staff Appreciation, Art Awareness, Room Parents, Bike Safety, Outside Planters, Chess Club, Field Day, Going Green, Science Week, Spelling Bee, Walker Welcome, Walker Gives Back, Running Club, Student Safety & Wellness, Social, Going Green.
  11. All contracts/Agreements must be signed by a Co-President.
  12. No blank checks shall be written on the PTO accounts and all checks shall be signed by at least two signatories of the account.
  13. Liability and Bonding Insurance shall be purchased each year. Additional coverage can be purchased at the discretion of the Board.
  14. The standing rules shall be reviewed and adopted annually at the first executive meeting of the year by a majority vote of those present.
  15. On retirement of a staff member, a brick is purchased for the front entry way and a bush or plant is added to the school grounds.

 Walker has a long history of partnering with local organizations to provide onsite extracurricular opportunities for students. All programs are for grades K-5. See below for details:
 
Chess Club
 
K-5, Mondays 3:05-4:05 9/22-11/17
-The game of Kings and Queens with Illinois Chess Teachers! No experience needed - beginners and new members are welcome! Join to:
  • Play games with other chess club members
  • Learn new winning strategies with interactive lessons in small groups led by chess masters
  • Solve puzzles and chess tactics

LeeHan Martial Arts
K-5, Mondays 3:05-4:00 9/15-5/18
- In this world class level program, your child will prepare for their first and/or higher degree of TaeKwonDo black belt test and it will provide the Kukkiwon Degree certificate. Some of the key benefits of learning TaeKwonDo include self discipline, respect, self-control, self-defense and leadership among others. For more details and to register, click here.

Spanish Club, hosted by Language Labs
K-5 Thursdays 3:05-4:00 10/2-1/29 (no class 11/29, 12/25, 1/1)
- Boost your student's interest in learning a new language by learning from the Language Lab's energetic, creative, experienced and native team of teachers! Classes will offer students fun and educational lessons with interactive games, music, songs, and engaging activities. You can register online here!

BAMtheatre
K-5 Thursdays, 3:15-4:15 9/18-11/20
- BAMtheatre offers programming for beginners & more experienced actors interested in the performing arts! Students will study the foundations of musical theatre (singing, acting, dancing) with their classmates. Fall programming features songs from Frozen and will have a final showcase for parents and friends on the last day. Click here to register.

Sticky Fingers
K-5 Tuesdays: 3:05-4:15 9/23-11/19
K-5 Wednesdays: 3:05-4:15 9/24-11/19 

- Let your child release their master chef! Your little chef will explore exciting pairings, master culinary skills and nourish their bodies and minds. Classes incorporate S.T.E.A.M., culture, language, geography, history & more. Click here for more info.

Maureen Claffy Art Club (Paint and Draw for Life)
K-5 Wednesdays: 3:05-4:15 9/17-11/19 
- Awaken the joy of art in your child! Every week is a new adventure. Original thought and artistic process is taught by a professional artist. Class includes an art kit to keep, art history weekly, professional quality materials and the confidence from creation. Click here for more details. 

Elementary Golf
K-5 - Fridays: 3:05-4:15pm September 19-December 19 (no golf on 10/31, 11/28)
- This 12-week program, which takes place in the Walker gym, introduces the lifelong sport of golf with a fun and enriching experience that is affordable and convenient. The curriculum was created by PGA professionals and teaching experts to include lesson plans that are fun, safe and educational. All levels welcome! Click here for more info.
